December 20th, 2011 · No Comments · edinburgh

Just another thought for all our overseas visitors, although in Edinburgh we consider ourselves to be much posher than our Glasgow friends we do still have some slang words that foreign folks may have no idea of the meaning, so here are some translations.

The “slang” word in bold italics, should be pronounced as you read it, and the “English” meaning beside it :-)

ken – know

nut – no

aye – yes

ra big booze-up – the big party

rasooside - the southside

snowfaur yukonhoofit – That isnt fair, you can walk

norah bliddichance - Not a bloody chance!

whiddje fur ? – What would you like ?

heidcase- crazy person

goaramdri - extremely thirsty (gosh, I am dry)

swaarmraday – the temperature has risen (Its’s warm today)

selluvakolnoo – the temperature has dropped (Its awful cold now)

slanja va – cheers (your good health)
