Edinburgh Fireworks Night

November 6th, 2012 · edinburgh

Last night we saw fireworks going off all over Edinburgh from our Edinburgh Festival Apartment HQ, it was a lovely clear night so they were very loud and you see them everywhere across the city skyline.

Its amazing in these times of austerity people still manage to find money to buy fireworks and keep with old traditions. Myself I have always hated fireworks unless the are organised displays like the one at the end of the International Fringe Festival – Virgin Money Fireworks or the New Year Celebrations in Princes Street Gardens. I have to agree watching these displays along with some classical music is really uplifting!

Edinburgh is famous for its New Year street party and most of our Edinburgh apartments are already full but we are still having many inquiries every day for people looking to come for just Hogmanay. Most of our Edinburgh Apartments can only be booked for two or three night stays at that time of year so its worth bearing in mind that there are many things going on in the city from the 30th of December like the torch-lit parade down the Mound which sees out the old year – this can be seen from our Edinburgh apartments in the Royal Mile, it is up at Calton Hill where we also have some great Edinburgh Apartments.

We also have many large families and groups staying together in our Edinburgh party apartments like Lothian Apartment where all the family can stay and there is a huge lounge and kitchen to have a great party in. The good thing about Edinburgh Lothian Apartment is its only 5 minutes from Princes Street so if you have passes for the street party you can pop back to the apartment throughout the night.

Our fabulous Edinburgh Townhouse Apartment in Haymarket is also a great place for a group of friends as it has 7 en-suite bedrooms and bathrooms and a huge lounge with a bar to make your own New Year cocktails. This Edinburgh Townhouse Party Apartment would even be a great place for a few friends to rent between Christmas and New Year to have a get together and prices would only be around £25 each for a night – just give us a call if you would like us to work out a great wee bargain get together for you and your friends that want to stay in Edinburgh Apartments either to party or even just to visit the January sales.

Edinburgh Halloween !!!

October 31st, 2012 · edinburgh

Halloween is almost with us and I am amazed to see how huge Halloween has become. Twenty years ago I was on holiday in Boston USA with my young son who was completely transfixed with the amazing Halloween decorations at every corner. People decorate their homes, yards and gardens as much as we do at Christmas time. This past week walk about Edinburgh City Centre there are pumpkins, cobwebs, ghosts and ghouls everywhere.

Edinburgh has a very scary history and there are many walking tours and ghost tours going on all year all over the city but mainly in the historic Royal Mile nearby by our Royal Mile Edinburgh Apartments.

Most people believe Halloween started in in Western Europe as a Harvest Festival however most believe it has pagan roots and Samhain (Beltane). This is seen as a time when the door opens enough for the souls of the dead. People took steps to ward off harmful spirits and fairies and this is what is seen to have influenced todays Halloween customs.

Wearing costumes may have originated as a means of disguising oneself from these harmful spirits and fairies. In Ireland, people went about before nightfall collecting for Samhain feasts and sometimes wore costumes while doing so. In the 19th century on Ireland’s southern coast, a man dressed as a white mare would lead youths door-to-door collecting food; by giving them food, the household could expect good fortune.

Trick-or-treating may thus have come from the custom of going door-to-door collecting food for Samhain feasts, fuel for Samhain bonfires or Samhain offerings for the spirits and fairies.

Making jack-o’-lanterns at Halloween may also have sprung from Samhain and Celtic beliefs. Turnip lanterns, sometimes with faces carved into them, were made on Samhain in the 19th century in parts of Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. As well as being used to light one’s way while outside on Samhain night, they may also have been used to represent the spirits or fairies  to protect oneself and one’s home from them.

We have a group of twenty ladies staying in our Edinburgh Lothian Apartment this weekend who have asked to come early so they can decorate the apartment with cobwebs and pumpkins, I am sure they will have great fun in the huge lounge and they can even make their own Halloween cocktails in their very own bar.

Anti Slavery Day 18th October

October 15th, 2012 · edinburgh

Here at Edinburgh Festival Apartments we always like to know what is going on and what celebration days there are coming up as we get all kinds of people staying in our Edinburgh Apartments.

So it came as a huge surprise when referring to Google we found Anti Slavery Day !

The amazing thing is that we all think that slavery is a thing of the past however in many parts of the world it is still rife. It’s still happening in places like Africa,South Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Slavery records date back to the fifth century BC many people being locked in chains around their neck and ankles, this brings a much different picture nowadays especially after reading 50 shades!

So when did we ‘stop’ slavery?

The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act was finally passed in 1807 and all slaves were freed over the next twenty years.

How disappointing then that in the 21st century we need a day like this!

It really makes you think especially when here at Edinburgh Festival Apartments we spend all our time organising holidays and large groups coming to Edinburgh Apartments to party and have a good time, the nearest we get to slaves in our environment are our hunky butlers hired for an hour to serve drinks sometimes wearing nothing but a kilt.

We are so lucky here that all our time is spent looking for people to enjoy themselves whether its families coming to stay in Edinburgh Apartments like 18g with three bedrooms and plenty of space for everyone to have dinner or large groups of girls coming to stay in our Hen Party Edinburgh Townhouse.

We have something to suit everyone – its very easy all you have to do is look at our Festival Apartments or Apartments Edinburgh select the dates you require and the number of people and everything we have available will be there for you to see.

There are some really great new Edinburgh Apartments in the Royal Mile and our fabulous party apartments ideal for Edinburgh Hen Party apartment weekends and Edinburgh Stag Party apartments weekends.

Things have been very exciting here at Edinburgh Festival Apartments the last couple of weeks! The phone and emails have been so busy with enquiries we already are almost full in our fabulous Edinburgh Townhouse Apartment until next June! Edinburgh for One Night Only

October 8th, 2012 · edinburgh

ONE NIGHT ONLY – is one of my favourite songs from the Dream Girls show… the lyrics have been going round my head because I often get calls for people looking for “One Night Only”.…..

You want all my love and my devotionYou want my love and soul right on the line I have no doubt that I could love you forever The only trouble is you really don’t have the time
You’ve got one night only, one night only, that’s all you have to spare One night only, let’s not pretend to care One night only, one night only, come on big baby come on One night only, we only ask you don’t
In the mornin’ this feelin’ will be gone It has no chance goin’ on Something so right has got no chance to live So let’s forget about chances, its one night I will give
One night only, one night only, you’ll be the only one One night only, turn your arms around, oh One night only, one night only, there’s nothin’ more to say One night only, once get in the way One night only, one night only, one night only

So we decided maybe its a good idea to offer some One Night Only Stays……

Here at Edinburgh Festival Apartments we very often get asked for one night stays for large groups coming to Edinburgh.

We can offer these Edinburgh Apartments for one night during the week however at the weekend demand is actually too high so we can only offer two night stays in our Edinburgh Apartments. This year at Edinburgh Apartments and for 2013 however we are looking at our weekend bookings carefully and have realised there are some weekends that our Edinburgh Apartments are booked for Saturday and Sunday which means an Edinburgh Apartment on a Friday night is free and we can offer this at a great price of around £40 each.

Edinburgh Apartments also have Bank holiday Monday weekends that are booked Friday and Saturday which means a Sunday night is free again at the same great price and a bonus if you are off on the Monday but dont want to spend the money it costs for a whole weekend away.

Edinburgh is a great city and we have some fabulous apartments in Edinburgh that are all very central so it means you can see all the important sites in a short visit.

Keep watching the blog to see what one night availablity we have but for now here are a couple of dates we have free in our large group Edinburgh apartments.

Friday 3rd May – One Night Only

Edinburgh Townhouse Apartment sleeps 22 people all in single beds, a huge lounge with its very own bar and 7 ensuite bedrooms – only £40 each for the night and for an extra £10 each we can provide you with a buffet for your party.

Edinburgh Lothain Apartment – sleeps 2o all in single beds, an even bigger lounge again with its very own bar. This Edinburgh Apartment is in the heart of Edinburghs nightlife so we can organise you a night out on the town with VIP club pass all for an amazing price of £40 each.

The Great Edinburgh Bupa Run

October 4th, 2012 · edinburgh

We have been very busy at Edinburgh Festival Apartments this week with lots of last minute bookings for people who are either taking part or spectating the great Edinburgh Bupa Run which is on this Sunday 7th October 2013.

You can either do a 5k or 10k run the choice is yours, over 8000 people are expected to take part. The route covers some of the most scenic parts of the city starting and finishing in Holyrood park so here’s hoping there will be some good weather for all of those taking part.

This year we even have Scotland’s leading marathon runners, Olympian Freya Murray and Andrew Lemoncello looking to take the lead and secure domestic victories for the first time in the history of the event.

The route starts at Holyrood Park  just a 5 minute walk from our Royal Mile Edinburgh Apartment which sleeps 10 people in 3 separate bedrooms. This is a great apartment for families taking part that want to take in all of Edinburgh’s historic sites as everything is within walking distance. Waverly station is also within walking distance so no need for taxis when you arrive.

The course heads round the park towards the Royal Commonwealth pool nearby our Cavalry Park Edinburgh Apartment which is an ideal family apartment and benefits from private parking – a bonus whilst staying in Edinburgh city.

Going towards the finish line you will head back down past our Cannon-gate Edinburgh Apartment where we are sure the streets will be lined with supporters cheering you on towards your finishing medal.

We also have a couple who are both taking part who have opted to book our ultra modern Quartemile Edinburgh Apartment which is within the old Royal Infirmary building. The old building has been completely transformed with the use of modern materials and loads of glass which gives the apartments a bright outlook. So very best wishes to our Quartermile Edinburgh Apartment runners.

We also have some celebrity runners taking part this year who are staying in our Edinburgh Apartments but we cant tell you where in case  you turn up looking for an autograph!  But look out for Eric Pollard and Karl Munro from Coronation Street.

X Factor

October 2nd, 2012 · edinburgh

So this weekend X Factor went to the judges houses, although I am pretty sure the judges have never lived in any of those house but what an amazing opportunity for all those young people to go to such amazing apartments like the ones Dubai and Las Vegas.

It had me thinking if they were to bring the groups to Edinburgh Apartments which would be the best one for each group.

The Overs – always a bit of a freak show and most would like their own bedroom or at least only share with  one person so it would have to be our 7 bedroom Edinburgh Townhouse Apartment. Its in a nice part of town with the restaurants of George Street only a ten minute walk away and an abundance of shops for some retail therapy ranging from Primark to Harvey Nichols so you will be spoilt for choice looking for a nice sparkly number.

The Girls – has to be 31 Grove Street Townhouse Edinburgh Apartment, this is so girlie with sparkly pink and loads of mirrors. Five bedrooms and a huge lounge to practice dance routines.  Also when the girls are tired of thier own company there is a good range of cocktail bars at the top of the street and our dance class venue where they could practice or be taught some seductive dance moves at our burlesque class.

The Boys – its got to be George IV Residence Edinburgh Apartment with 15 single beds in four bedrooms and an abundance of takeaway shops for pizza, kebab, curry, chips, sushi you name it you can buy it on this street. Also their are great sports bars like The Three Sisters just round the corner.

The Groups – tricky one but I would say Lothian Apartment would be ideal as it  has 3 large bedrooms each with 6 single beds and another small room with bunk beds where the baby sitter could sleep – well these boy bands are so young – or maybe I am just so old !! Edinburgh Lothian Apartment has a huge lounge which would be great for practice sessions and high ceilings which would be good for vocals.

So I am hoping for a call from Simon Cowell when he is looking to book his Edinburgh Apartments for 2013 X Factor – I am sure they will come in well under budget at £40 per person per night our Edinburgh Apartments are hard to beat on price, location, facilities.
