The property is situated on the historic union canal which runs from the centre of Edinburgh to Falkirk. There is a variety of heritage walk and cycleways through scenic woodlands, which link the suburban Edinburgh from the Port of Leith to the Pentland hills.
The property is a short distance from the city centre. There is a selection of supermarkets, bars and restaurants in the surrounding area. Bus routes 1, 22, 30, 34, 35, 27, 10.
